Claygate Parish Council has welcomed Elmbridge Borough Council’s decision to pause work on development options for Torrington Lodge Car Park, announced on 8 May.
The move follows the Parish Council’s call for Elmbridge Borough Council either to remove the large supermarket proposal from consideration or to pause the project altogether.
In recent discussions with Elmbridge Borough Council, the Parish Council reiterated that a large supermarket development does not have the majority support of local residents, citing concerns about the potential impact on Claygate’s independent shops and the effect of increased traffic and additional delivery lorries on the village’s narrow roads.
