At present, assets such as the Community Centre, Torrington Lodge and Hare Lane car parks, the allotments and others are owned by Elmbridge Borough Council. From April 2027, ownership will pass to the new East Surrey Council — unless Claygate Parish Council steps in to request a Community Asset Transfer.
We believe these important local assets are best managed locally, by your Parish Council, on behalf of the community — rather than by a larger, more distant authority looking for cost savings.
We are therefore preparing to express an interest in taking on some of these assets. However, we want to be clear: we will only proceed if there is strong support from residents.
If we don’t act now, the opportunity may be lost — and with it, local control over these valued community assets. We’ll keep you updated every step of the way.
Keep an eye on the new Parish Council website for the latest information.
