Claygate Parish Council is looking for two new Parish Councillors.
We currently have two vacancies on the Parish Council and would love to hear from residents who are interested in getting involved in local community life.
The vacancies will be filled by co-option at the Parish Council meeting on 24 September 2026. Successful applicants will serve as Parish Councillors until the next scheduled Parish Council elections in May 2027. It would be hoped that they will then stand for a regular term of office.
What does a Parish Councillor do?
Parish Councillors play an important role in representing local residents and helping to make decisions that affect the village. It’s a rewarding opportunity to have a voice in local matters, support community projects, and help ensure that Claygate remains a great place to live, work and visit.
Previous experience as a councillor is not required, but applicants should be willing attend relevant training. The Parish Council is keen to attract candidates with a broad range of skills, knowledge and experience to support its work. In particular we welcome applications from individuals with .
- A genuine commitment to serving the local community
- Sound judgement and an ability to consider issues objectively.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities
- Experience of working collaboratively and constructively with others.
- Knowledge or experience in areas such as finance, governance, project management, planning, legal matters, community engagement, communications or environmental issues.
